Interior Design Project 1

After working in fashion for 11 years, I turned my eye to another interest…interior design.

I recently purchased a 2 storey foursquare style home with an arts and crafts interior with my fiancee. We loved it at first sight…we did have to look past the state it was in as it desperately needed a face-lift. I’m a big fan of Frank Llyod Wright , and was excited at the opportunity to revamp a home with the original gum wood interior intact. We were up for the challenge.

Before we started any decorative infusion we needed to remove the knob and tube and the old windows that were in place since the 30′s. We really wanted to honour the bones and character of the home so we decided to keep the windows similar to the design they were originally.

This is what our hallway looked like while we were removing the knob and tube. I love the staircase as it reminds me of a church pew.

The home has 4 bedrooms. 3 are dedicated to beds and one is currently being used as a small studio.

This is what I have recently done with one of the bedrooms. I wanted to portray a whimsical feeling for this room. What I love most is the etched marble artwork of a winged mermaid. I tried to compliment the artwork and work around that theme.

BEFORE

AFTER

This is a bedroom I created for mainly female guests. I am still working on what paintings I will need to hang in this room to liven it up. The bedframe is French late 18th century. This room has more of a Provence inspiration to it.

This is an image of the study that is currently next to the kitchen on the main level. I found this 18th century étagère and thought it would be the perfect piece for the room.

I’m currently working on the remaining rooms in the house. Mainly the kitchen at the moment as it will be the larger project to complete.

I’ll post additional photos of the home once some reno’s have been done.

Ciao!
